We all have power… and power is not bad depending on how it is used. So how do you use the power you have? Are you using it to serve yourself or are you using it to serve others? This week we contrast worldly power with the Power of God.

Who was the first “bully” you stood up against? With what results?
August 7 Ecclesiastes 8:1-9
In what ways are you in the service of the King of heaven and earth? How well are you doing by heeding His Word and by being ready and willing to serve?
August 8 Ecclesiastes 8:10-13
Where do you struggle continuing to follow God’s will and committing yourself to His judgments, which will be favorable to the believer in the end? What can you do to cultivate a healthy reverence for God?

What are some reasons to give thanks to God each day, especially in the mercy He extends to you in Christ? How are you being lead to trust God’s judgments?

Where have you seen the Holy Spirit providing the strength that enables you to fulfill God’s commands? In what ways are you pro-claiming the Word, entrusting the time and hour of conversion to God?

How do you know Christ can powerfully effect and do everything that He says and promises? How are the Church’s authority and the State’s authority confused sometimes?
Live It
Everyone in this world has power and is under some authority. Ecclesiastes 8 and the other verses provide a wisdom-filled perspective of a world so often abuses power and authority. Rather than trying to make sense of everything that happens in life, recognize that God’s purpose and plan prevail and live in that confidence.
