Locations & Times
Dewey Community Church

Sunday, April 19, 2020
In light of public health and safety requirements, and with prayerful guidance from the Dewey Community Church Board of Elders, it has been determined that all activities in the DCC building will remain on hiatus through at least the beginning of May. This includes Sunday morning activities in addition to Wednesday evening "Connections."
You can listen to this week's sermon online at http://www.deweychurch.org/listen. On the website, you'll also be able to access our YouTube playlist for songs of joy and hope to bring you into a time of worship.
During this time of staying home, Pastor Neal is emailing a daily devotion (Tuesday-Friday), along with a Sunday email called DCC@Home. If you are not already receiving these emails but would like to, contact the church office at office@deweychurch.org.

The Character of God
Isaiah 40:9-11
There is only one other thought that has come to me in connection with this epidemic; it is of the blessedness of religion, of the sense of security which a true, living, working faith in the Lord Jesus Christ gives one in the midst of life's perils. I felt, as doubtless you all felt, who are Christians, the blessedness of a firm grip upon Jesus Christ — the blessedness of being anchored in God and in His precious promises. (Rev. Francis Grimke, 11/3/1918)

God’s child can ‘Keep Calm’ in our present-day trials as we reflect upon God’s character and remain anchored in him. In Isaiah 40:9-11, we are reminded of 2 aspects of His character which are intended to calm the fears of His children and help them to ‘breathe’ and to increase and encourage trust in him.
I. God’s child can ‘Keep Calm’ when we are reminded that God is great (v. 9-10).
II. God’s child can ‘Keep Calm’ when we are reminded that God is good (v. 11).
Conclusion:
Have We Lost Sight of God? by Cal Thomas. Two things happen when people lose sight of God:
A. The evil person grows ever more evil.
B. The godly person grows ever more discouraged.

One thing God has spoken, two things have I heard: that you, O God, are strong, and that you, O LORD, are loving. (Psalm 62:11-12a)
Remember to Pray: For Ben & Erin H. as they await the arrival of their child in May...for Christy P. (daughter of David & Denise) who has contracted the coronavirus...for our teachers, students and families as the decision has been made to not return to classes this school year...for Mike & Heidi R. as they continue to care for Heidi's father in their home...for Nik H. and Chase V. as they serve our nation in the US Army overseas....for those planning for this year's VVBS (Virtual Vacation Bible School)...that all those in our congregation who fall into the 'at risk' demographic will be able steer clear of the coronavirus...for those who have or who are anticipating a loss of income as 'non-essential' businesses remain closed through the end of the month...for our president, governor and other elected officials as the weight of many decisions which impact the lives of millions rest upon their shoulders...for our missionaries who are experiencing the challenges presented by Covid-19 in places far removed from their family support systems.
The DCC Board of Elders will meet today (Sunday, April 19) at 5:00 pm. Please keep them in your prayers as they meet.
