Mark 2:27, 28 “Then he told them, ‘The Sabbath was made for man and not man for the Sabbath. So then, the Son of Man is Lord even of the Sabbath.’”
When can things normally thought of as work be done during a Sabbath?
· Sabbath emergencies involving genuine human need
· Special times of ministry
· In order to present a sin offering to God
· To perform a “now or never” act of kindness (and a choice must be made between kindness and breaking the Sabbath rest)
Jesus demonstrated that he is the Lord of the Sabbath when he wore the result of the curse on his brow as he was crucified.
Saturday, the Sabbath, was a part of Jesus’ work/rest and the day when he rescued mankind from death and separation from God.
Jesus’ work was necessary on the Sabbath between Good Friday and Easter Sunday because:
It was a Sabbath emergency… genuine human need
It was a “once in eternity” time of ministry
It was a time when the perfect sin offering was presented to God
It was a “now or never” act of kindness opportunity
Easter weekend proves that God would rather have you messy than not at all.
Easter weekend proves Jesus is our Sabbath rest from attempting to earn salvation (but not from working toward right living).
