Joshua 24:14–15
The Provision of Peace
Examining the Text:
Joshua 24:14–15, “Now therefore fear the Lord and serve him in sincerity and in faithfulness. Put away the gods that your fathers served beyond the River and in Egypt, and serve the Lord. And if it is evil in your eyes to serve the Lord, choose this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your fathers served in the region beyond the River, or the gods of the Amorites in whose land you dwell. But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.”
Jesus is the Promised Peace
Joshua 11:21–23, “So Joshua took the whole land, according to all that the Lord had spoken to Moses. And Joshua gave it for an inheritance to Israel according to their tribal allotments. And the land had rest from war.”

Psalm 2:8: “I will make the nations your heritage, and the ends of the earth your possession.”

Jeremiah 5:22, “…I placed the sand as the boundary for the sea, a perpetual barrier that it cannot pass; though the waves toss, they cannot prevail; though they roar, they cannot pass over it.”
1. What Does Peace Look Like?
2 Corinthians 10:17, “Let the one who boasts, boast in the Lord!”
2. Why are Some People Terrified by Peace?
John 3:18, “Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.” (See 3:35–36)
3. How Do I Battle for Peace?
2 Corinthians 10:4–5, “For the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh but have divine power to destroy strongholds. We destroy arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God, and take every thought captive to obey Christ.”

Philippians 1:19–20, “Yes, and I will rejoice, …with full courage now as always Christ will be honored in my body, whether by life or by death.”

Judges 2:10, “And there arose another generation after them who did not know the Lord or the work that he had done for Israel.”

Joshua 24:14, “Choose this day whom you will serve!”
