LOVE IN CRISIS
Sermon Notes + Scripture

Stand firm in God's extravagant love
The love of God, really known, tranquilizes the heart. True godliness consists rather in a sincere feeling which loves God as Father as much as it fears and reverences him as Lord. ~ John Calvin
Stand firm in expressing God's love
It extends through our actions
Practical ways to express L.O.V.E.

Listen with empathy

Observe the wisdom and direction of the experts

Volunteer to help

Stand firm in God's extravagant love

What is so extravagant about God’s love?

How can we stand firm in God’s love for us? Reflect on an area of your life where you feel God’s love most evidently. Next, think about an area of your life where it is difficult to sense God's love. Share these answers with your group and discuss why you believe you sense His love clearly in one place and not another. What can you do to sense His love more?

L - Listen with empathy - How do you listen with empathy? Who is someone in your life that does this well? Who is someone you need to listen to with more empathy?

O - Observe the wisdom and direction of the experts - Christians pursue truth (Jesus Himself is “the way,the truth, and the life.”- John 14:6). How can you best pursue truth, both spiritually and in the world in general? How can you love your neighbor by pursuing truth and accurate information, both in scripture and in the world around you? Who are some of the wisest people you know? What about their behavior fosters wisdom?

V - Volunteer to help - How can you best serve your family and neighbors in your context? Who are the people you are best equipped to serve right now? How does service in this time help show the love of Christ to others?

E - Express encouraging words - Think back on the last time you received a really encouraging word. Think about how that made you feel. Thank God for that encouragement. When was the last time you deeply encouraged someone with your words? Who is someone in your life that you know needs encouragement right now? How could you best encourage them with your words in this season?

Meditate on God’s Love - Close your time by meditating on God’s love. What are ways you can lean into his love more clearly? What are ways you can express His love more clearly? End by thanking God for the love He has shown you and ask Him for help in expressing His love to those around you.
