· It shows, through the examples of others, how to possess what God has promised us.
· It demonstrates the blessings of obedience and the price of stubborn disobedience.
· It illustrates the reality of spiritual warfare and the danger of compromise.
· It challenges us to be decisive, determined, and devoted.

Our study of the book of Joshua, the Crossing Over series, ends today.
Over the past 3 months we've followed the Israelite people as they prepared for and then moved into the Promised Land.
During the series we've used the phrase "moving from HERE to THERE" to capture the essence of Joshua.

Life is a journey. It brings changes to us on a regular basis. The changes are not always welcome and sometimes they are downright inconvenient.
Someone has written, "change is inevitable, growth is optional".
What we learn from the changes in life and how we adapt to them really determines the quality of life we will have.

Today we will look back at the life of Joshua and pull some lessons from this great man's life, lessons we can apply to our lives today.
The life of Joshua is memorialized in the Bible because of his great faith in God, ferocious nature in battle, and fervent love for his people.
Romans 15:4

Lesson #1 - RECOGNIZE that God is the Lord, in all things and at all times.
Joshua 1:1
We all have a God who is the Lord of our life. "Someone or something" to which we devote our time, talents, and treasures. As you consider the current state of affairs, is your God bigger than the problems you are facing?

Lesson #2 - RELY upon God's nature and promises.
Joshua 1:5
Once we recognize who God is, we have a choice. We either run from Him or we rely upon Him.

Joshua 1:8
With His promises, God often would remind Joshua to obey every bit of God's Word. Why do we have to remind people so many times about things? Because human nature is forgetful but also arrogant.

Lesson #4 - REMEMBER that God has a plan and we are part of it.
Joshua 1:2
God uses our HERE to prepare for the THERE. His plan requires our faithfulness now for His fruitfulness later.
In the last couple of weeks, have you been a whiner? a whimp? or a worshipper of God?

Lesson #5 - REACH out and touch the water's edge, God is waiting on the other side.
Joshua 3:15-16
God wants you and I to move forward in our spiritual life. But like the Israelites we are fearful and hesitate.
A small step forward in faith activates God's actions on our behalf.

Lesson #6 - RESIST the urge to settle for less than what God has for you.
Joshua 24:20
Joshua constantly challenged the Israelites to move on.
He understood that their biggest problem was not the enemy soldiers but actually complacency, comfort, compromise, and callousness.

As we look back at the book of Joshua, we see that God wants us to cross over. This means that we must be willing to move from HERE to THERE.
In doing this we will realize God's purpose for our life, reach our God given potential, and rise above our problems.

Giving While We're Away From Church
Remember all of those utilities that you need to pay whether you're home or away from home? God gave us 78 acres and a 23,000 sq. ft. building with all of those same utility bills, insurance costs, and wages to pay whether we are meeting or not. Like you, the church is completely trusting in God to supply everything that we need. He knows about our financial responsibilities as well as our desire and we simply ask you to keep this issue in your thoughts and prayers. Several people mailed or dropped off their tithes and offerings this week - thank you!
