We are living in uncertain times. There are a lot of hurting people. What do you do when everything is changing? This Sunday, Pastor Scott will be preaching on lessons we learn from the life of Job that can help us live in these uncertain times.
Job was a man who had it all. He was blameless. He shunned evil. He was blessed by God. He was rich. He was the greatest man among the peoples of the East.

Satan came to God and told he that Job would curse God if he took away all he had. God gave him permission to do that. He lost all his possessions. His 10 sons and daughters all died in one fell swoop. Life certainly hurt.

Sound familiar. Many in our day are experiencing hurt. Hurt of self isolation. The hurt of lost wages. The hurt of reduced income. The hurt of sickness. For some the hurt of death. We are tempted to simply want to go back to what we knew before but we need to go through the hurt to get to the other side. To find a new normal.

Here are 3 lessons we learn from the life of Job.

Lesson #1 - Praise God in the midst of hardship. (Job 1:20-21)
After all that tragedy happened, Job did three things. He grieved, he worshipped, he praised God. In the midst of our hardships, we can follow Job's example to praise God in the midst of the storm.

Lesson #2 - Find Garden Friends (Job 2:11-13).
Job was immobilized. His 3 close friends found him. They sought him out. They grieved with him. They didn't try to give pat answers. They stayed with him.

Jesus had garden friends (Matt 26:36-38). Jesus made himself vulnerable and transparent with them. Jesus shared his heart with them.

Do you have garden friends? Someone to share your hopes, sorrows and joys? If not, reach out. If so, be thankful.

Lesson #3 - Submit to God's Wisdom (Job 42:1-6)
Job (in Job 38:2-4) questioned God and God spent the next 4 chapters answering him. Job's response was simply You are God and I am not. Your ways are higher than my ways. We don't understand why things happen. We do know that God is good. God is love. God is faithful. God can be trusted.

The Rest of the Story
Job prayed for the healing of his friends. When he did that, God gave him twice as much as he had before. The latter part of his life was better than the first. He had 10 kids again. His daughters were the most beautiful of the land and they received an inheritance along with their brothers (unheard of at that time). Job saw his family till their 4th generation.

Church, be faithful in the midst of this storm. Praise God. Find Garden Friends. Submit to God's wisdom.
