But are you listening for the most important call?

When God Calls Your Name: Responding to the High Calling of God
1. God’s call out of darkness is sobering.
~ “called you out of darkness”
~ Darkness was our dwelling place (Colossians 1:13)
++ The darkness of spiritual death (separated from God) Ephesians 2:1
++ The darkness of spiritual deceit (sabotaged by sin) 1 John 2:11
++ The darkness of spiritual dominion (submitted to Satan) 2 Corinthians 4:4
2. God’s call out of darkness is awe-inspiring.
~ “called you . . . into his wonderful light”
~ Compare to Jesus’ call of the dead man, Lazarus (Jn. 11:43)
~ The call “out of” is also a call “into”
++ A chosen people: selected (John 15:16)
++ A royal priesthood: connected (Colossians 4:12)
++ A holy nation: affected (Romans 12:1-2)
++ God’s special possession: protected (Zechariah 2:8b)
3. God’s call out of darkness is compelling.
~ “that you may declare the praises of Him who called you”
~ Marching orders (Acts 26:18)
~ Darkness dispellers (Matthew 5:14a,16)
~ Eternal darkness (compare 2 Thessalonians 1:8-9 and 1 John 1:5)
