One of the most enduring symbols in our country after 9/11 was the American flag hanging from freeway overpasses. Unfortunately, the symbol of our current crisis seems to be shopping carts full of toilet paper and hand sanitizer. What does it mean to be part of a community when that community is separated or even divided. This weekend we look at Nehemiah 5 and learn how we are in this together.

Background on Nehemiah

The story of Nehemiah is part of the much larger saga of the nation of Israel taken into exile and captivity. Here is some additional material on those events.

1. We are in this together.

We are in this together as a city, as a church, and we are in this together with Christ.
GROWTH GROUP / PERSONAL REFLECTION QUESTIONS
1. What is the most positive example you've seen of people helping each other during this crisis?
2. What has changed most for you since mandates have gone into effect?
3. What is one thing you can do to be in this together with the rest of our community?

2. Leaders lead and so do the rest of us.

Luckily for the people working on the wall in Jerusalem, they had a leader who lived out his faith and character long before the challenges came.
GROWTH GROUP / PERSONAL REFLECTION QUESTIONS
1. In what area of your life are you a leader? If you can’t think of any, where are you most involved with others?
2. Who has been a leader in your life who has lived out the values of their organization?
3.When has Christ been most present to you through someone else?
4. How is one way you can be the hands and feet of Jesus this week?

Next Step

Decide one way you can be the hands and feet of Jesus this week and decide on a day when you will have done it. For example, by Friday I will have checked in with my friend who isn’t part of a church community.
