In this series, we are studying the Old Testament book of Joshua.

· It teaches us how to live once we’ve place our faith in Jesus the Savior.
· It shows, through the examples of others, how to possess what God has promised us.
· It demonstrates the blessings of obedience and the price of stubborn disobedience.
· It illustrates the reality of spiritual warfare and the danger of compromise.
· It challenges us to be decisive, determined, and devoted.
The phrase, "moving from HERE to THERE", captures the essence of the book of Joshua.

When was the last time you were on a long journey?
What were some of the thoughts and feelings you had as you made progress?
How would you describe your mood once you arrived at your destination?

If you had been involved in an armed conflict for about 7 years and now there is a time of calm - where would you want to go and why; and who would you want to see?
Through the first 21 chapters of Joshua we have followed the Israelites as they have crossed over the Jordan River. For 7 years they've steadily progressed and the promise has now become a possession.
In chapter 22 we come to the moment when the tribes have to settle in and begin a new stage of life.
The conquest is over. Israel has to say their good-byes and move on to establish their new country.
You can break the chapter into 3 sections: The People, The Problem, and the Process of Reconciliation.
This morning we are going to focus on the first 8 verses - The People.
2 1/2 of the tribes of Israel chose to settle on the east side of the Jordan River. They were borderline believers who were willing to live without all of the benefits of the Promised Land.

In Joshua 22:1-8 we see Joshua, the leader of Israel, demonstrating how to respond to people in general, and specifically to difficult people.
We'll learn some lessons and skills that will help us live better with others because when all is said and done, it's about PEOPLE!
First - TAKE the initiative in dealing with people.
Joshua 22:1
Second - SPEAK in such a way as to build up and encourage others.
Joshua 22:2-3
Third - POINT people toward the person of God and His promises.
Joshua 22:4
Fourth - IDENTIFY what really is important in this life and the next.
Joshua 22:5
Fifth - BLESS others and believe in them.
Joshua 22:6-8
H.O.M.E. Group Discussion Questions:

1. What do you look forward to the most after a long journey?

2. When have you had to “fight” for something you really believed in or wanted?

3. Why do you think that some people choose to be borderline believers?

4. Which of the 5 lessons of dealing with people most resonated with you and why?

5. Read the rest of Joshua 22. How would you describe the problem that arose between factions of Israel? What were some of the principles of reconciliation that you see in the chapter?
