So What?!
We become cities of refuge when we:
#1. Recognize God for promises fulfilled.
“…gave Israel all the land which He had sworn to give…”
Now these things happened to them as an example, and they were written for our instruction…”
I Cor. 10:11
Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus by the will of God, according to the promise of life in Christ Jesus…

#2. Rest in God given gifts utilized.
“…gave them rest on every side…”
But to each is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good. I Cor. 12:7

Prayer Requests:
Group Discussion: If you could ask God, “How or what would you like me to improve?” what do you think He’d say?
Read: Joshua 20:1-9 & 21:43-45
Substitute your name for the phrase, “cities of refuge.” How would you provide what the city of refuge was to provide for the manslayer if she/he were a family member, neighbor, person you disliked?
Joshua tells us, “(God)…gave Israel all the land which He had sworn to give…” Read Romans 8:22-30 and as a group make a list of all the promises God makes to us as followers of Jesus. Which one is most meaningful to you and why? Which one do you wish your non-believing friend or relative could latch onto that would bring them closer to Christ?
Paul tells us, “Now these things happened (Old Testament history) to them as an example, and they were written for our instruction…” I Cor. 10:11. As you think back into the Old Testament can you think of any Bible stories that are good examples to you? What is God trying to help you understand Him or the way He works with us through the story of: David and Goliath, Adam and Eve, Jonah and the whale?
Joshua“…gave them rest on every side…” The word rest is the idea of every person having a task that matches their skills so they’re fulfilled. What skill has God given you so that you’re fulfilled in life? Paul writes, “But to each is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good.” I Cor. 12:7. How do you serve at GateWay for the common good?
Joshua records God fulfilled His immediate purpose for the for the nation of Israel when he writes, “…gave all their enemies into their hand.” They overcame their enemies and saw God bring success. What’s one way God is giving you victory in your life?
Jesus said, “For God so loved the world He gave…” What do you think of the statement, “We are never more like God than when we give.” John 3:16
Family Time: Buy your kids a small inexpensive gift. Wrap it up and give it to them at dinner and ask them, “Why would I give you a gift?” Then read John 3:16 and talk about how God loves us so much that He gives us eternal life as a gift.
