Living in Step with Our Identity [March 1, 2020] Greg Burlile
A Principle: Work out your disputes with other believers OUTSIDE the secular courts. (vs. 1)
Reasons for the Principle:
1. If you will judge the world and angels in the kingdom to come, you can certainly judge simple disputes among yourselves now (vss. 2-6)
2. If you take a trivial case to secular court with another believer, regardless of who wins it is really a defeat for the kingdom of God (vss. 7-8)
3. When you don't settle these cases among yourselves, you are acting like someone who will not inherit the kingdom of God (vss. 9-11)

A God Centered Response to Conflict
1. Glorify God (1 Corinthians 10:31)
* How can please and honor God in the situation?
2. Get the log out of your own eye (Matthew 7:5)
* How can I show Jesus' work in me by taking responsibility for my contribution to this conflict?
3. Gently restore (Galatians 6:1)
* How can I lovingly serve others by helping them take responsibility for their contribution to this conflict?
4. Go and be reconciled (Matthew 5:24)
* How can I demonstrate the forgiveness of God and encourage a reasonable solution to the conflict?
