Introduction
God speaks in the PAST TENSE, about my future.

The wall fell because of God, not THE PEOPLE!
So What?!
#1. Archeology ENCOURAGES but doesn’t confirm my faith.

· Jericho walled & fortified city. 2:5, 7, 15
· Part of the wall composed of houses. 2:15
· Short siege around spring harvest. 3:15, 5:10
· Walls falling outward also creates ramp. 6:5, 20
· One part of the wall spared. 6:22
· City not plundered. 6:17-18
· City burned. 6:24
#2. God’s past tense is my SECURITY!
#3. Personal obedience is MY responsibility.
#4. Situational outcome is GOD’S responsibility.

Prayer Requests:

Group Discussion: When growing up did anyone ever say to you, “You’re going to be the greatest _________________ when you grow up!”
Read: Joshua 6

Joshua and the people obeyed all the details that God commanded them in gaining victory over Jericho. Do you think you would have followed through the same way Joshua and the people did? Why in the world would God have them do all that? Do you think you need more or less detail in how to live your Christian life? In your marriage, or if not married in your dating relationships? In your parenting? In your Church participation? In your career?

Do you think that after the Israelites conquered Jericho any of the people sat around talking afterward and said, “Do you think the marching, the horns, the shout and walls falling down was just all coincidence?” Do you think you miss the things God does in your life and just chalk it up to coincidence? Do you watch every day for God to do something with, through or in you? What’s one thing that God worked with you on this last week? What has God been putting on your heart to do lately?

Archeology supports the walls of Jericho falling outward which is the opposite way an invading army would push them over in order to invade. Is your faith encouraged when hear archeological facts from Israel?
God tells Joshua, “I have given Jericho into your hand…” Paul writes, “…to these whom He justified, He also glorified.” Rom. 8:30 God looks at you as though you’ve already arrived in Heaven therefore Jesus is able to say, “…and the one who comes to Me I will certainly not cast out.” John 6:37 Why do you think God wants us to know that He’ll never reject us or cast us aside? If God was willing to allow Jesus, His Son, to die for us, how valuable to God are we? How does it help me live life if I’m totally secure in God’s family and God’s love? Were you in a secure family growing up? How did that impact you?

Paul in Galatians 6:7 writes, “…whatever a man sows, this he will also reap.” If you were to chose one thing on this list that you’re attempting to sow into your life which one would it be: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, gentleness, faithfulness and self-control. Galatians 5:22-23
Paul told the Philippians, “…He who began a good work in your will perfect it…” meaning bring it to fullness. What good work is God doing in you that you really sense the work of His Spirit? Is there anything in particular that you’d like to have Him work on?

Family Time: Write up 6 notes of direction, one note telling your kids where to go to find the next note etc. Put some reward with the 6th note like a candy bar. Then while you’re enjoying your candy bar (you should have one also) explain how Joshua had to follow ALL God’s instructions in order to win their battle.
