Prayer in the Hebrew Bible
Cultural Universals, Anthropologic Universals, Human Universals
Pastor Jonathan touched on Cultural Universals, Anthropologic Universals, and Human Universals...
1) Can you think of at least three more examples of things that are common to all humanity and are part of human existence that transcend culture, language, race, borders, and religion?
2) Do you agree or disagree - prayer is a "natural" part of what it means to be human. Why or why not?
1. Prayer is...
1) In reference to Genesis 3:8-9, Pastor Jonathan suggested that the first prayer/conversation/communication with both, Adam and Eve, followed the fall. How might this be comforting?
2) Additionally, God initiated the conversation. How might this be comforting and how might this influence your understanding of prayer?
2. Prayer is...
Effects of Anxiety on the Body
1) Is worry and anxiety... never part of your life, occasionally part of your life or chronically part of your life?
2) How has worry and anxiety manifested itself in your life mentally and/or physically?
3) Do you have any strategies to manage your worry and anxiety? If so, what are they? Is prayer one of them? If so, how does it help?
4) Agree or disagree - prayer is an antidote to worry and anxiety. Why or why not?
Prayer is...
1) The saying goes, "There are no atheists in foxholes." Why does it seem like people are more likely to pray when things are going wrong and not so much when things are going right? How might the latter lead to pride?
2) What might be some of the benefits of "... praying continually... in all circumstances", (1Thess 5:17-18)?
Experiencing God in Prayer
February 8/9; half-hour before each worship service. StoneBridge Church is in a season of transition that only happens once, every 30 years. In appreciation of the Pastor Nominating Committee's hard work, in anticipation of our next Pastor - Head of Staff, and in honor of so much more that is happening in the life of our family of faith, A Call to Prayer will be held every second weekend of the month, a half-hour before every worship service. A Call to Prayer will not only be a time to prepare hearts for worship but also a time to collectively pray for God's will for StoneBridge's future. Please join us!
