I AM NOT ASHAMED! 2 TIMOTHY 1:8-12....

Three thoughts on avoiding being ashamed of the gospel:

PREPARE to suffer (1:8).

REMEMBER the gospel (1:9-10)

GET BUSY serving (1:11-14)

PREPARE to suffer
(Face your fears, be faithful, eyes on the future)

• FEAR: The 3 courage-builders are enough to endure hardship (1:7)

(Fear of what others think (Pro. 29:25; Psa. 118:6), Fear of not being in control (Psa. 46:1-3), Fear of no one caring (Psa. 56:4, 8)

• FAITHFULNESS: Prepare for the consequences of being faithful (1:8)

• FUTURE: There is a future reward that is the only sure thing (1:12).

REMEMBER the gospel (1:9-10)
(It is powerful, grace-based, and life-promising)

•The gospel is POWERFUL, but it’s hard to admit we’re weak (1:8).
•The gospel is GRACE-BASED, but it’s hard to admit we’re sinners (1:9).
•The gospel is LIFE-PROMISING, but it’s hard to admit we’re mortal (1:10).

GET BUSY serving (1:11-14)
(Do what God has created and called you to do)

•If you are a Christian, look for opportunities to proclaim and explain the Gospel (1:11).
•As you proclaim the Gospel, guard it—don’t change it (1:14).
•As you explain the gospel, remember it’s about who not simply what (1:12).

In our Connection Groups this week:

•Take some time to deeply consider whether or not you are truly willing to suffer for the gospel of Christ…As believers, our testimony for Christ should frequently put us in uncomfortable scenarios. Does yours?

In summary....

Prepare to suffer (2 Tim. 1:8).
(Face your fears, be faithful, eyes on the future)
Remember the gospel (1:9)
(It is powerful, grace-based, and life-promising)
Get busy serving (1:10-14)
(Do what God has created and called you to do).
