Could He actually come tomorrow? Or tonight? This afternoon?
Is Jesus’ coming a random event? If it is, it can happen anytime. It can be today, tomorrow, or the day after. It’s just a matter of time. No wonder why quite often sincere Christians, even Adventists, are easy to fall for date setters. Yes, history has a Hall of Fame of date-setters, and it seems that as we come closer to the end their number increases.
If you are a genuine Christian, you cannot be fooled like that!
But isn’t Jesus supposed to come like a thief? Doesn’t Jesus say: Behold, I’m coming as a thief? Doesn’t the Apostle Paul state that the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the nigh? Yes, he does say that. But look what else he says: 4 But you, brethren, are not in darkness, so that this Day should overtake you as a thief. (1 Thess. 5:4)
Jesus’ second coming is not only a matter of time; it’s also a matter of divine plan and purpose. The Book of Revelation describes a chain of events leading up to His coming.
Revelation 14 offers a beautiful picture of the final worldwide proclamation of the Gospel (the three angel’s message). Its role is to give a final warning and a last chance to the inhabitants of the earth. According to Matt. 24:14: 14 "And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in all the world as a witness to all the nations, and then the end will come.
Remember the beautiful woman (the Christ-ian church – Christ’s
wife) of Revelation 12. She is persecuted by the dragon (through the beast – which is a symbol of a persecuting political power). You would say the enmity between the two would never end.
But… Revelation 17:6: 6 I saw the woman, drunk with the blood of the saints and with the blood of the martyrs of Jesus. And when I saw her, I marveled with great amazement. The woman (Christ-ian church) becomes unfaithful to Christ and turns into a harlot. She becomes the lover of the scarlet beast, which is a copy/image of the sea-beast that persecuted Christianity throughout the centuries and is created at the deceit of the earth-beast).
This is the picture. First we are told that the harlot sits on many waters. The angel says: Come, I will show you the judgment of the great harlot who sits on many waters (Rev. 17:1)
Then we are told that the woman sits on the beast. 3 So he carried me away in the Spirit into the wilderness. And I saw a woman sitting on a scarlet beast which was full of names of blasphemy, having seven heads and ten horns. (Rev. 17:3) So we have three elements: woman, beast, and waters. The woman sits on the beast, and (along with the beast) on the many waters.
The angel explained what the waters mean. 15 Then he said to me, The waters which you saw, where the harlot sits, are peoples, multitudes, nations, and tongues. (Rev. 17:15) A political power can only exist if the people carry him. Therefore a political power sits on the people.
So first you have the people… than the scarlet beast (the persecuting political power). On the beast seats the woman (a persecuting religious power). So who’s stronger, the horse or the horseman/woman/beast-woman? What we’re dealing with is a religious power that rides/dominates a political power that (the two of them) ride/dominates the sea of people.
And who is going to be persecuted? 6 I saw the woman, drunk with the blood of the saints and with the blood of the martyrs of Jesus.
Who are these? 17 And the dragon was enraged with the woman, and he went to make war with the rest of her offspring, who keep the commandments of God and have the testimony of Jesus Christ. (Rev. 12:17 NKJ)

Before Babylon is destroyed/falls, God calls his people out so they can be sealed…
As a reaction, the beast also wants to mark his… and he decrees death for those that don’t accept his mark. Then the time of mercy is over (chapter 15). The sanctuary is filled with smoke and no one can enter… and God’s final justice is applied: the plagues. It seems that the 10 kings turn against Babylon when they see that she cannot help them during the plagues.
What is interesting is that after Babylon is destroyed, the kings of the earth mourn her. The merchants also lament. Why? They all cry because they don’t have anything left. All the benefits are gone!
Amidst the lamentations: 20 Rejoice over her, O heaven, and you holy apostles and prophets, for God has avenged you on her!
What will the remnant lose when Babylon falls/is burned? Nothing…? The remnant belongs to Jerusalem.
The description of the scarlet beast is pretty complicated. But there is something interesting about its 10 horns: 12 The ten horns which you saw are ten kings who have received no kingdom as yet, but they receive authority for one hour as kings with the beast. 13 These are
of one mind, and they will give their power and authority to the beast.
At one point, something weird happens: 16 And the ten horns which you saw on the beast, these will hate the harlot, make her desolate and naked, eat her flesh and burn her with fire.
