1. Read the Beatitudes in Matthew 5:3-12.Jesus follows this passage by saying “You are the salt of the earth” Discuss what it means to be “Salty Christians” in light of the beatitudes.

2. Read Mark 9:50. How might a christian lose his/her saltiness?

3. In Mark 9:43-47 Jesus provides a stark symbolic teaching against sin. How might this apply to your own approach toward sin? Have you taken dramatic steps like this in the past that you could share with the group?

4. What is the significance of the child in this passage and how might that impact our willingness to “cut out sin?” (refer to Mark 9:36 & 42).

5. Consider how people in your community, workplace, family, or school might know that you are a Christian?

6. Are you a salty Christian? How might you live with more distinction, seasoning, purity?
