But…here is why we should memorize…
1. Jesus memorized Scripture!
2. We are called to memorize!
3. It renews our lives.
4. It helps us overcome temptation.
5. It brings God’s blessing to our lives.
6. It helps us encourage one another.
7. It gives a better understanding of God and His Will.
8. It makes us wise!
D. Memorizing Scripture...
Many will have excuses...
Overcoming excuses for not memorizing:
1. “I don’t have a good memory” Actually, you do!
2. “It will take too much time”
3. “I’m too busy”
4. “I’m not very interested” Ouch!
5. “I’ve tried before and it never really worked”
6. “I don’t see the benefit of working on it that hard”
7. “I read the Bible every day… why do I need to memorize it?”
8. “I don’t know what translation to use”
9. “I might become prideful”
10. “I don’t know how to do it”

If I had to choose between all the disciplines of the spiritual life, I would choose Bible memorization, because it is a fundamental way of filling our minds with what it needs. This book of the law shall not depart out of your mouth. That’s where you need it! How does it get in your mouth? Memorization.”
