Genesis 24
Abraham’s charge to his servant
Servant: what if?

Asks God for a specific sign
Rebekah arrives & fulfills that sign
The man gazed at her in silence to learn whether the Lord had prospered his journey or not
Servant verifies her identity, and worships God
He is welcomed into the home of Bethuel, and tells his story and asks for a decision
Family confers, then sends Rebekah with a blessing
Isaac takes Rebekah as wife
Genesis 25
Abraham’s wife Keturah
6 more sons – including at least one more major kingdom – the Midianites
Nobody in Abraham’s will except Isaac
All his other children were given gifts
Abraham died; Isaac & Ishmael buried him
Ishmael’s descendants and his death
Isaac prays for children – Rebekah was barren
Rebekah becomes pregnant – children struggling in the womb – two nations
Jacob & Esau born
Isaac loved Esau; Rebekah loved Jacob
Esau sells his birthright
Genesis 26
Famine
Isaac travels to Gerar – the land of Abimelech
Isaac follows dad’s example: She is my wife
Abimelech “when he had been there a long time” finally figured it out and protects Isaac & Rebekah
Isaac is greatly blessed in Gerar
Abimelech sends them away because they’re too powerful
Isaac travels digging wells as he goes along – Esek & Sitnah were claimed by others as “theirs”
Finally one has no conflict – Rehoboth
God appears to Isaac and promises to multiply his offspring
Isaac worships, builds an altar, pitches his tent and digs another well
Abimelech with his advisor & commander of his army seek out alliance
We see plainly that the Lord has been with you. So we said, let there be a sworn pact between us, between you and us, and let us make a covenant with you, that you will do us no harm, just as we have not touched you and have done to you nothing but good and have sent you away in peace. You are now the blessed of the Lord.
The final well is named Shiba – City of Beersheba
Esau finds a wife among the Hittites – made it bitter for Isaac & Rebekah
