The family is not a firm enough foundation to build your life on or a holiday around. Your family cannot ultimately bring you hope, meaning, or purpose, so the focus should be on the one who can.

Christmas is about Jesus, born of a virgin, on a mission to redeem his people through the cross, adopting us as sons and daughters, reshaping how we view family.

Because we have been adopted into the family of God, our biological family is not ultimate nor is it insignificant—it’s now an arena for self-sacrifice.

Jesus is the son who becomes servant so that those of us who are servants of sin might become sons of God.

Christmas should not be a celebration of our biological families. It should be a celebration with our families focused on Jesus.

The cross says you are not defined by your biological family but by who God says you are. Now go and serve your family.
