#BAPTISMintheLAKE! is here August 18th! Maybe you have seen the bright green bracelets that say "I Left It In The Water." Maybe you are wondering what this is all about and how you can leave it in the water, too. Join us August 18, 2019 Following the 10:00 AM Zion at the Park service at City Beach for Baptism in the Lake. What is baptism? Baptism is a declaration that you are a follower of Jesus Christ. It is a public confession of your faith in and commitment to Jesus Christ. Baptism does not make you a believer; it shows that you already are one! Who should be baptized? Every person who has made the decision to believe in Christ. What if I’m too old to get baptized? Baptism isn’t just for babies, although we love them and will baptize them too! It doesn’t matter if you are 3 months old or 60 years old. Jesus was baptized at the age of 30. What if I’ve already been baptized? That’s great! You can still join us! Some adults choose to publicly affirm that which happened in their Baptism and wish to re-affirm their Baptism as an expression of gratitude to God and a re-dedication to Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. So if you’re tired of being the person that others want you to be and you want to start new and be the person God has created you to be, then I encourage you to take a step in your faith, get baptized, and be restored! If you have any questions, contact Amanda Farmer amandaf@zionclearlake.org // 641.357.5261 Mark Schumacher Benefit August 18th at The Dock will be a benefit to raise money for Mark Schumacher, beloved husband of Beth Ann Schumacher to help them raise money as he suffers from a debilitating illness known as Anterior Horn Cell Disease. Anterior Horn Cell Disease is a motor neuron disease similar to ALS and is characterized by progressive weakening of every muscle in the body. Like ALS, this disease is terminal when the muscles necessary to keep the body working become too weak to do so. Like ALS, there is no cure. Mark has reached the stage where he is now confined to a lift chair, wheelchair, or bed-ridden. Breathing has become difficult, talking is resricted to short phrases, and he tires very quickly. Despite all of this, Mark retains his lively spirit and good attitude. Help us lift up and come alongside a family that we care so deeply for by attending and supporting this wonderful time of a benefit in his name! The party kicks off at 6-7 PM with an Ice Cream & Dessert Bar for a free will offering! After that, plan on attending the concert at 7 PM in The Dock featuring some of Mark's favorites from Zion Lutheran Church Worship Team and the River City Barbershop! Last spring a shipment of quilts, School Kits, Personal Care Kits, Baby Care Kits, and Fabric Kits that traveled to Peru. L.W.R. Staff distributed the quilts and kits to 30,600 women, men, and children all across the country. There is a great need for these kits around the world. In refuge camps they may be all they have. There is a list of what items are needed in each kit at the display table at The Sanctuary. You may complete a whole kit or just bring individual items and we will put them together for you. We have bags at church so you may put items in a plastic bag and we'll do the rest. Thank you so much for helping provide these items for your brothers and sisters around the world. Jonah Disobeys the LORD
Jonah 1:1-3
One day the LORD spoke to Jonah son of Amittai. He said, “Go to Nineveh, that great city, and preach against it. Announce to the people that I can no longer overlook the wicked things they have done.” Jonah, however, set out in the opposite direction in order to get away from the LORD. He went to Joppa, where he found a ship about to go to Spain. He paid his fare and went aboard with the crew to sail to Spain, where he would be away from the LORD.

What’s Jonah’s Problem?

God uses problem to correct you, to inspect you, and to redirect you.
My Question to you is: Where is your problem leading you?

Sometimes God shakes things up to direct us.
Sometimes God shakes things up to protect us.

The story of Jonah is a very real story.

Jonah, like Jesus, willingly sacrificed his life.
The sailors in the boat asked Jonah.

Jonah 1:11-12 11
“What should we do to you to stop the storm?
Jonah answered, “Throw me into the sea, and it will calm down. I know it is my fault that you are caught in this violent storm.”

God Renews Jonah’s Call
Jonah 3:1-2
Then the word of the LORD came to Jonah “a second time”. He said, “Go to Nineveh, that great city, and preach against it. Announce to the people that I can no longer overlook the wicked things they have done.” So Jonah obeyed the LORD and went to Nineveh, a city so large that it took three days to walk through it. Jonah started through the city, and after walking a whole day, he proclaimed, “In forty days Nineveh will be destroyed!”

Jonah got a second chance.

The good news: God hasn’t given up on Jonah. The bad news: God still wants him to go to Nineveh.
God confronts the evil in Jonah heart.
