Is God good? And the church answer is?? Are you ready for the good things of God? Yes me too!!

I’m so glad we can all come together and expect the good things of God as a big family.

One morning I was here in church, loving God and people like we always do.

Then I saw a friend and could tell they were physically hurting, I asked them and they said “ya, it’s been hurting for a while. Its all good. I’ve got some pills and a chiropractor.”

Now I’m all about doctors, medicine etc. but how is it we come every week before GOD, believe in all the great things He wants for us and promises he has for us, then walk away just the same as before??

Why is it we actively believe in God, but not necessarily the power of God. – active: drove to church, have the bible app, checked Christian on FB – but now that He’s trying to be God we tense up and hesitate! I mean God’s a healer, provider, protector, on and on but we often times don’t experience those things. Why is that? I thinks it’s because of this.
We love the power of God when it’s done FOR us but not THROUGH us.

Israelites – taken out of slavery, through a desert, fed and watered miraculously everyday, then when God wanted them to take the amazing promised land from the giants, they freaked out.

Getting out of Egypt, they didn’t have to do anything, food water, nothing. They were grateful as long as God did things for them, and not through them. When nothing was required of them loving God was easy, but when God wanted them to move, to act oh heck no!!. Right?? I mean God bless me with money and stuff, Oh give to the parking lot I really can’t afford that!! God bless all I put my hand to and everywhere my feet go, oh don’t go there cause it’s not a place you want me to be, God just bless me as I live how I want!! God give me the desires of my heart, what love people, forgive them, I can’t do that but give me the desires lord!!

What relationship with God do you want?
Ephesians 3:16-19
I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge—that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.

The fullness of God – there is something more that we often never experience

Don’t settle for the partiality of God when we have access to the fullness of God.
There is Power through His Spirit” –we need this power.

I remember seeing someone on crutches, and wanting to pray for them, because like you, I believe in God, but I chickened out because even though I believe in God, I don’t believe in me. I doubt my faith, but not the Lord’s promises!

Seeing this person broke my heart, all I wanted was to see them walk for the first time – this is my spirit stirring up to act – I can listen or ignore.

Without the “power of the Holy Spirit in us” we will always doubt ourselves and end up not acting.

We want to invite that friend or even that person we know of that is hurting, because we believe that God will help them the way He helped us, but we don’t and walk away because we don’t have the FULLNESS of God within us, because that means God stops only doing things for us and starts doing things THROUGH us, and that is scary. Kind of like kids growing up. The older they get the less you have to do for them. I mean it would be weird if I was still changing Conner’s diapers right?? But many Christians are still running around in their pampers waiting on God to do everything!! He’s given us authority on this earth and we have to grow and develop in that and not stay babies!!
Ever wish you could defend/talk about God better?Not mean or argumentative, but in a way that brings people the truth they need?

Peter and John, Acts 4 – arrested for helping a man in the name of Jesus. A mob ready to hang them – you think its hard to pray at lunch!

When the world attacked everything they knew was right and true, it says (Acts 4:8) that they were filled with the holy spirit and spoke BOLDLY

Acts 4:13 - The members of the council were amazed when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, for they could see that they were ordinary men with no special training in the Scriptures. They also recognized them as men who had been with Jesus.

The power of the holy spirit gave them the boldness to speak, and to speak in a way that even their haters believed.

Boldness and fullness only come by the Holy Spirit within us!
Ever wish you could boldly love people?– Again, we believe in the love of God, we experience every time we come together, and I believe we want to help people and make a difference… so what is stopping you?

You saw someone cry, what stopped you? I don’t have time for that drama!

You saw someone needed a friend, but I already have enough friends!!

Many times we see people that need a hero (our time, a listening ear, or actually needing some help like moving – You need help moving, let me pray for you).

Why do we so often come and get a message and get so pumped up to go out and love the world and then when the opportunity comes we never seem to run out of excuses as to not do it?

(Gal. 5:22) says that the very first fruit of the SPIRIT is love.

Even being able to just boldly love people is not going to happen because God makes it happen, it happens THROUGH us.

There will be people that God puts in your heart that your spirit will start lighting up when they cross your path.

Waiter that needs a little extra tip, a person sitting alone at an airport, that friend you haven’t talked to in a while.

By myself, in my current relationship with God, I have enough compassion and desire inside of me to want to be who God says I am, but if the fullness of God isn’t working through me then I can’t ever achieve that!

We need the Holy Spirit

The holy spirit is for every day living
Want to feel stronger?– Tired of wanting to do things that you just don’t think will ever happen? Or to stop doing things you just can’t seem to stop!!

Romans 8:26 - And the Holy Spirit helps us in our weakness.

We all have weaknesses we deal with

Praying for people I didn’t know was a weakness of mine until God started putting on my heart to pray for more and more people

Pray for that persons shoulder! – no God, you do it, you just touch them, it’s your healing power, not mine.

I can’t do this, what if they don’t get healed, what if what if what if???? We often defeat ourselves with our what if’s before we even step on the playing field.

I am always too weak, but with the Holy Spirit working THROUGH me, I’m not.

But this life of power requires us to allow God to work through us and not just for us!!
So how do you get this fullness, this power in your life?? By staying plugged in to the Source!
Human Nature (flesh) is the enemy of the Spirit of God.

Galatians 5:16-17 - So I say, live by the Spirit. Then you won’t be doing what your sinful nature craves. The sinful nature wants to do evil, which is just the opposite of what the Spirit wants. And the Spirit gives us desires that are the opposite of what the sinful nature desires. These two forces are constantly fighting each other, so you are not free to carry out your good intentions.

Live by the Spirit – but we really just live for ourselves.

We do what we want, think about what we want, hang out with who we want, watch and listen to what we want.

“Invite them” - I’m to busy to do that

Pray for them – I don’t feel like it but I’ll pray for my needs

Forgive them – I don’t want to because you don’t know what they did to me!

Human nature is about human desires, Spirit nature is about God’s desires. – Can’t live by both.

They are at constant war with each other.
Winning Spirit:

Whoever you feed the most wins – Everything that goes in your eyes and ears gets in you.

There was a student with nightmares asking for prayer. Come to find out they watch scary movies and shows and stuff like that every night. Duh

“its just a movie” – ok, then why are you affected by it?.

If it was just a movie, just a song, just a website, just some guy/girl, then you could easily put it down. But most movies, songs, websites, relationships etc feed our flesh and we like that, don’t we?.

When was the last time you fed your spirit outside of church?

Ephesians 5:15-18 - So be careful how you live. Don’t live like fools, but like those who are wise.Make the most of every opportunity in these evil days. Don’t act thoughtlessly, but understand what the Lord wants you to do. Don’t be drunk with wine, because that will ruin your life. Instead, be filled with the Holy Spirit

Be careful how you live – do you look, act, talk like the world… or do you look, act, love, and speak like God

You can’t expect to get to all the places God wants you to be by following the world. Who are you following??

Galatians 5:25 - Since we are living by the Spirit, let us follow the Spirit’s leading in everypart of our lives.

It's going to be a very frustrating life to believe all that we do about God and His promises for us, to want all that we do from Him and then never be openly seeking God’s spirit to do it THROUGH us. To live the life He’s planned for you on this planet will require you to go from sitting in your highchair waiting on God to spoon feed you, to putting on your big boy britches and getting on the playing field!!
We have been wanting more in our lives. More love, boldness, strength, peace – we ask and pray for it all the time expecting God to do it for us, today you need to wake up and be ready and willing for Him to do it THROUGH you.
