A call to worship from New Zealand Evening Worship

All: God's love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit which has been given to us. Romans 5:5

Officiant: Great is the Lord and worthy of all praise.

All:Amen! Praise and glory and wisdom, thanksgiving and honour, power and might, be to our God for ever and ever! Amen.

Great and wonderful are your deeds
O Lord God the almighty
just and true are your ways
O Sovereign of the nations.

Who shall not revere and praise your name O Lord?
for you alone are holy

All nations shall come and worship in your presence
for your just dealings have been revealed

To the One who is seated on the throne and to the Lamb:
be blessing and honour, glory and might
for ever and ever. Amen. (Revelation 15:3b-4; 5:13)
Officiant:If we claim to be sinless, we are self-deceived and strangers to the truth. If we confess our sins, God is just and may be trusted to forgive our sins and cleanse us from every kind of wrong.

All: Spirit of God, search our hearts.

All together:
God of mercy,
we have sinned against you and against others.
We have sinned in what we have done,
and in what we have failed to do.
WE are truly sorry.
For the sake of your Son Jesus Christ,
who died for our sins,
forgive us all that is past
and raise us to newness of life. Amen.

Officiant: Almighty God, who pardons all who truly repent. forgive our sins, strengthen us by the Holy Spirit, and keep us in life eternal; through Jesus Christ our redeemer. Amen.

Psalms 107:1-9

Every time we come to scripture, we do well to ask God to enliven the words and speak, by the Holy Spirit, to our hearts. We'll be looking at a few different passages about faith. Before we begin:

What does faith mean to you?

Romans 10:17

Hebrews 11:1

1 Corinthians 2:5

Ephesians 2:8-9

2 Corinthians 5:6-8

James 2:24

Galatians 2:20

Luke 17:5-6

Reader: Hear what the Spirit is saying to the church
All: Thanks be to God.

What do you notice freshly about faith?
Do these passages change or expand your definition of faith in any way?

We'll look at more scriptures about faith:

Matthew 17:14-20

Reader: Hear what the Spirit is saying to the church
All: Thanks be to God.

What do you notice freshly about faith?
Do these passages change or expand your definition of faith in any way?
What do you make of hope connected so closely to faith?
So why do these readings matter to you?

Romans 5:2

2 Corinthians 10:14-16

Galatians 5:5

1 Thessalonians 1:2-3

1 Peter 1:20-21

Colossians 1:21-23

As we continue, we say the following affirmation together:

I believe in God, the Father almighty,
creator of heaven and earth.

I believe in Jesus Christ, God's only Son, our Lord,
who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
born of the Virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died, and was buried;
he descended to the dead.
On the third day he rose again;
he ascended into heaven,
is seated at the right hand of the Father,
and will come again to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy catholic Church,
the communion of saints,
the resurrection of the body,
and the life everlasting. Amen
Officiant: The Lord be with you
All:The Lord bless you

Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us. Save us from the time of trial and deliver us from evil. For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours now and forever. Amen.

Call: Make your ways known upon earth, O God,
Response: your saving power among all peoples.
Call: Renew your Church in holiness,
Response; and help us serve you with joy.
Call: Guide the leaders of this and every nation.
Response: that justice may prevail throughout the world.
Call: Let not the needy, O God, be forgotten,
Response: nor the hope of the poor be taken away.
Call:Make us instruments of your peace
Response: and let your glory be over all the earth.
Collect of the Day: Let your continual mercy, O Lord, cleanse and defend your Church; and, because it cannot continue in safety without your help, protect and govern it always by your goodness; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

Its your turn to pray as you're led, either aloud or silently. If you'd like inspiration or prayers to read, turn in the book of common prayer to page 810 for a table of tested and wholehearted prayers.
Diocesan collect: Gracious and loving God, you have called us in this Diocese to a goodly community of faith. You have called us also to bring others to know and love you. Give us, heavenly Father, a special measure of your grace, that we may be obedient to your Great Commission. Assist us, O Lord, and help us, that we may do your will in all things; and especially in our efforts to bring others to the knowledge and love of you. We ask all of these things through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
We close with hymn 43 and then these words:

The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and
the fellowship of the Holy Spirit, be with us all evermore.
Amen. 2 Corinthians 13:14
