Target fixation is an attentional phenomenon observed in humans in which an individual becomes so focused on an observed object (be it a target or hazard) that they inadvertently increase their risk of colliding with the object. Used in Air Force combat training.

Your focus determines your destination.

1. We pursue Jesus because He is the only One worth pursuing.

Modern Christianity doesn’t want the prince of peace they just want to sin in peace.

Legalism is when we turn a private conviction into a public standard.

What hinders our pursuit?

1. Comparison

Comparison is the thief of joy and the cancer to contentment.

2. Weight

A weight is any area of our lives we don’t trust God with.

What are some practical ways that we can pursue Jesus? How can we prevent our pursuit from turning into legalism?

Why do you think we have stopped pursuing holiness? If we are truly Christ followers we should look, act and talk different than the world. What are some of the big differences in the world’s standards and God’s? How do we help not yet believers without judging them?

Are you pursuing Jesus out of obligation or love? What is the difference?

Have you ever fallen into the trap of comparison? How did you work through it? How can we help young people not fall in to the same trap?

1 Peter 5:7 teaches us to cast all our cares upon Him. What weights are you currently carrying that you need daily “cast” upon Jesus? Why do we brag about the weight we carry?

How does sin affect our pursuit of Jesus after we have been saved? How does sin affect our joy and fulfillment as Christians?
