“The life God offers is not just a final destination but a firsthand discovery of his goodness all along the journey.”
1 Kings 3:3a ESV

3 Solomon loved the Lord
Proverbs 2:6 ESV

6 For the Lord gives wisdom; from his mouth come knowledge and understanding;
Solomon had this incredible gift of wisdom, but it was not a guarantee of future success.
3. Wisdom and humility are companions on this road trip.
Proverbs 9:7-10 ESV

7 Whoever corrects a scoffer gets himself abuse, and he who reproves a wicked man incurs injury. 8 Do not reprove a scoffer, or he will hate you; reprove a wise man, and he will love you. 9 Give instruction to a wise man, and he will be still wiser; teach a righteous man, and he will increase in learning. 10 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and the knowledge of the Holy One is insight.
Small Group Outline & Discussion Questions
Celebrate and Care:

Have each person share a high and low from this past week.
Big Idea:

God offers each of us a gift of wisdom. We will discover his goodness as we steward the gift with humility.
Open Up:

Who is someone you see as wise? And what makes them stand out to you that way?
Discuss:

Choose one or two questions for your group to discuss as time allows.

- What is the difference between knowledge and wisdom?

- How is having faith more like a road trip than a destination?

- In what areas do people today live “above it all” like Solomon did in having so many wives who followed idols?

- Read Proverbs 9:8-10. Why is having humility as a companion to wisdom important?

- When can knowledge or experience shift into arrogance?
Engage:

Spend 1-2 minutes in silence with these questions then share your thoughts.

What area of your life do you need wisdom in most at this time?

What are you actively learning about? How will you continue to be a learner in your life?

What generation, and who specifically, could you actively live out Better Together with in this season of your life?
Close together in prayer.

Share an area of your life that you would like wisdom for and pray for each other to receive the gift of wisdom.
