Generations Church

Ephesians

Ephesians

Ephesians is not necessarily an introductory book to the Christian faith. It does not deal with doctrinal or behavioral controversies like Corinthians or other books. It is a book that calls us to greater maturity in Christ and to go deeper in our understanding of our faith. In this series we will walk through each chapter of this great book. We will unpack the truths of worship, prayer, grace, reconciliation, family relationships, and spiritual warfare. We will hear the challenge that calls us to “next level living! "Reach out and experience the breadth! Test its length! Plumb the depths! Rise to the heights! Live full lives, full in the fullness of God." Ephesians 3:19 MSG

Our Purpose

Generations Church understands the Biblical purpose for its existence. We strive in every way to follow the commands of Scripture in the following areas:
1) A CHRIST-CENTERED CHURCH:
We are a church that is based on the life and teachings of Jesus. He is central to our individual lives and to the life and ministry of our Church. 1 Peter 2:5-7
2) A CHURCH WITH A HEART FOR EVANGELISM AND MISSIONS:
We are a church that believes in the Great Commission. From our local community to the most remote part of the world, we believe that every person deserves the opportunity to hear the Good News of Jesus Christ. Mark 16:15
3) A PRAYER-FOCUSED CHURCH:
We are a church that believes in the power of prayer. Prayer draws us close to God and impacts our lives and world. Luke 11:1
4) A SPIRIT-EMPOWERED CHURCH:
We are a church that is dependent on the power of the Holy Spirit to accomplish the instructions of our Lord and to live a life that is pleasing to God. Acts 1:8

Ephesians: Experiencing Next level living
Ephesians 1

Reach out and experience the breadth! Test its length! Plumb the depths! Rise to the heights! Live full lives, full in the fullness of God. Ephesians 3:19 MSG
How did the church at Ephesus begin?

• The church begins around AD 52 about 23-30 years after the death of Jesus.
• "The word of the Lord spread widely and grew in power." Acts 19:20
Things to know about the letter written to the church at Ephesus:

• Paul writes the letter from prison in Rome around 60 AD, some 15 years after the birth of the church.
• The book was written to a relatively new church in a very hostile environment.
• Ephesians calls for a deeper more mature walk with Christ.
Paul gives us a list of things to praise God for: Ephesians 1:1-15

1. For he chose us in him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in his sight.
Ephesians 1:4

But just as he who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do. 1 Peter 1:15

• Blameless: above suspicion

2. In love he predestined us for adoption to sonship through Jesus Christ, in accordance with his pleasure and will. Ephesians 1:5

3. In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God’s grace that he lavished on us. Ephesians 1:7-8

• Imagine a person who is kidnapped and held against their will, with no way to liberate himself or hopeless to pay the ransom.

4. With all wisdom and understanding, he made known to us the mystery of his will according to his good pleasure, which he purposed in Christ. Ephesians 1:9

• God gives wisdom, understanding and direction to his followers.

5. In him we were also chosen, having been predestined according to the plan of him who works out everything in conformity with the purpose of his will, in order that we, who were the first to put our hope in Christ, might be for the praise of his glory.
Ephesians 1:11-12

looking to Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith. Hebrews 12:2 NKJV

6. When you believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit, who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God’s possession—to the praise of his glory. Ephesians 1:13-14

• Deposit: a payable first installment on something to be received later.
Paul’s Prayer for The Believers:
Ephesians 1:15-23

1. For this reason, ever since I heard about your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love for all God’s people, I have not stopped giving thanks for you, remembering you in my prayers. Ephesians 1:15-16

I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better.
Ephesians 1:17

PUSH: Pray Until Something Happens

I want to know Christ—yes, to know the power of his resurrection and participation in his sufferings, becoming like him in his death. Philippians 3:10

2. I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you:

• May know the hope to which he has called you,
• the riches of his glorious inheritance in his holy people,
• and his incomparably great power for us who believe. Ephesians 1:18-19
This morning let’s give God praise:

• He choose us in him to be holy and blameless in his sight.
• We have been adopted through Jesus Christ.
• We’ve been redeemed through his blood, for the forgiveness of sins.
• He has made known to us the mystery of his will.
• We were chosen, so we would first to put our hope in Christ.
• We have been given the Holy Spirit, as a deposit on our inheritance!
