Glencairn MB Church

Going Deeper is designed for use with your small group, a friend or on you own. Its aim is to create time for you to spend with God and his word. Do as much or as little as you like. If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to contact one of our pastoral staff.

1. Pray for the needs of your Life Group, for our church and our leaders, for personal and corporate renewal, and to allow God’s word to transform us. Share a recent entry from your Life Journal with the group.

2. This Sunday, our Biblical text is Acts 2:42-47 which is a description of the church immediately following Pentecost and Peter’s explanation of that event. What thoughts or questions did the message raise for you? Which ones encouraged you or posed a challenge to you?

3. Read Acts 2:42-47. What do you think about the characteristics of a Spirit-filled church as outlined by Luke? Which of those features do you see in Glencairn? Which areas do you see a need for growth?

4. Read Acts 4:32-37 and 5:12-16. These are short summaries of the state of the church at various stages. What similarities and differences do you see from these paragraphs and our current text? What differences do you see from the state of the current church (consider both Glencairn and the universal church)? What is the greatest need for the church today?

5. The message referred to the differences between “going to church” and “being the church”. What do you think about those two ways of looking at the church? What are some of the obstacles we face when considering church more about daily life, as opposed to a place to attend?

6. Read Acts 2:46-47; 6:1; 17:11; 16:5. What were the realities of the church’s daily life? How were they able to sustain this? Does it seem possible that this could be a part of your daily life? Why or why not?

7. Take a moment of silence to consider how God is speaking to you through these verses. What is He saying to you about your life here on earth and your life in Heaven? What concrete steps of response do you want to take? How can your group support you in these steps?
