Jon Huff stood before his accusers while bound to a stake about to be burned,
- “In the same truth of the Gospel which I have written, taught, and preached, drawing upon the sayings and positions of the holy doctors, I am ready to die today.”
Martin Luther stood before the council at Worms,
- “Unless I am convinced by Scripture and by plain reason and not by Popes and councils who have so often contradicted themselves, my conscience is captive to the word of God. To go against conscience is neither right nor safe. I cannot and I will not recant. Here I stand. I can do no other. God help me.”
If we have claimed Jesus as our Lord, then we must acknowledge it before men even if it kills us.
