Group Discussion: When do you think the world is going to end?
Read: I Peter 4, what was Peter’s view?
Before the world ends Peter says it’s vital that people connect with God. Prayer is one way to connect. Why does Peter say we need to be clear minded in order to pray (vs7)? Why is self-control important for prayer? Do you pray too much? Do you pray too little? Are you creative in your prayers or do you tend to like more of the memorized reciting of prayers? What is the value of creativity and reciting?
Peter says (vs. 8) we are to love each other deeply or fervently, which means to stretch. WHO is easiest for you to be flexible with: your parents, your siblings, your friends, your kids? WHY?
Vs. 9 says we are to offer hospitality to people without grumbling. Do you get stressed out preparing for people to come to your home? How often do you have people in your home? Are you a, “clean the house till perfect,” or a, “they get what they get,” host/hostess? What’s the one thing you grumble about when preparing for visitors?
How are you using our gifts to serve Christ in the Church? Do you ever think about what you do in the way Peter describes: other oriented, administering grace, speaking the very words of God? Do you ever finish your day and lay down in bed and say or think, “To God be the glory for this day!”
Of the 5 items shared on Sunday which one do you most appreciate: leadership, financial integrity, mission, vision or purpose? In which are you most involved?
Family Time: Use a rubber band, goop or slime and teach your kids the love that stretches concept from I Peter 4:8. Ask them how they can be more stretchy (patient) with their siblings or friends.
