Summary Last week:
God loves us (all)
We love like him
We love others
It all comes down to a relationship with God
Do you know him?
Has that changed your heart?
Has that changed your behavior?
Not: Try Harder
Instead: Try More Jesus
If your behavior doesn’t line up . . . you need a heart change.
If you’re trying to force the behavior . . . you’re doing it wrong.
You Choose –
1st the relationship with God
Surrender of yourself:
· To him
· To his ways
· To others
You choose to let him change your heart
You choose to put others first
Die to self
May feel weird
May feel scary – control
It goes from your
Heart – love
To your
Head – inner thoughts
To your
Hands - action

Dr. Les Perrot – “Love Like That”
The Answer is Loving Like Jesus
Jesus is our guide
Jesus is the perfect combination of Love & Justice & Truth
All truth – judgmental and rules
All Love – all subjective
Choose a few things
Be a Noticer . . .
Care
Have a heart!
The eye sees only what the mind is prepared to comprehend. Robertson Davies
We often miss what’s right in front of us
We’re focused on something else
We’re not looking for the “right” things?
What did Jesus “Notice” that Simon (the professional Christian) fail to see?
He only noticed her sin –
He only noticed her past
He couldn’t forgive or extend the grace he also desperately needed
He couldn’t see his own need – let alone hers
Jesus noticed her need
Forgiveness
The woman was repentant

The Gospel’s mention Jesus noticing something forty times
When he did he was moved with compassion
When we see people’s need . . .
What’s our response?
· Disgust?
· Contempt?
· Revulsion?
· Self-Righteous?
· Judgement?
His agenda was different than ours
· His agenda was people
· His agenda was redemption
· His agenda was love
· His agenda was healing
Because of that –
· People didn’t bother him
· People didn’t annoy him
· The only people that bothered him were the self-righteous
They weren’t interruptions – they were why he came

What does it take to be a Noticer?
· You have to love like Jesus
· You have to care
· You have to see past the surface to the person and their need
You Express affectionate interest through close observation and gallant gestures
Bold
Brave
Who’s Agenda –
Ours or His?
The person who is unwilling to set aside their own agenda is like a person who is wearing mirrored sunglasses with the lenses flipped around. As they look out at the world, all they can see is a reflection of their own needs and desires. Les Perrot
Egocentrism

Prayer
· For a change of heart – your heart
· Pray for others
Smile
Did you know smiles are contagious?
Studies have shown
People feel more open to someone if they’re smiling
They feel like the person looks more familiar
Even a fleeting smile has been shown to reduce tension in strangers
Four-thousandths of a second
Include
Ever been excluded?
Maybe a conversation –
You realized something happened and not only were you not there but you weren’t even invited?
Ouch!!
It hurts to be ignored
Attention is so valuable we don’t just give it, we pay attention. It’s like money. John Ortberg
