APPLICATION QUESTIONS:
What is the biggest event or most famous person you have seen or met in your life, for example, the Rose Bowl Parade, a Superbowl, a World Series game, a concert, a celebrity, etc. What fanfare or activities surrounded the event, or built up to it? How does this remind one of the Triumphal Entry? How do we see the people building into the excitement and anticipation of this event?
Read Zechariah 9:9 and compare how this prophesy confirms the character and nature of Jesus as Messiah. How does this compare to the people’s expectations of the Messiah and His coming? What kind of kingdom were they envisioning? Read Mark 10:42-45 as you answer.
Review Psalm 118:22-29. This psalm was part of the “Hallel” (praise) psalms (Ps. 113-118) that were used in the liturgical worship and festive procession of Passover. What is the significance of its use in the context of Jesus’ Triumphal entry?
Reflect upon and discuss the significance of this statement in verse 3, “The Lord has need of it..” How have you viewed the Lord’s “need” of you, and what is so incredible about this and about the Lord’s use of instruments to accomplish His work? What currently is limiting you or holding you back from service unto the Lord?
What happens when we neglect the “In-Between”? That is, when we rush from Palm Sunday to Resurrection Sunday, and revel in the joy and glory of those celebrations, yet forget about the week in between and what transpired in Jesus life.
How are you “carrying Christ” to the world around you?
