Today, we want to answer the question, who are you, really? A mom, grandmom, gigi, granny, mama, ma, mother, or more? God has uniquely made you to accomplish His plans through you. Failure is not an option

Genesis 16:1-14

The Bible doesn’t give us any information about Hagar’s genealogy, although some historians have tried to portray her as the daughter of Pharaoh, the King of Egypt, but most scholars believe that she was simply an Egyptian slave girl whom was given to Abram’s household while he and Sarai were in Egypt.

Since Hagar was a slave girl, then Sarai was legally entitled to do as she pleased with her, it was legal and was consistent w/custom during those times; it was still not God’s plan. Nowhere in Scripture does it say that Abram or Sarai ever went to the Lord to ask Him whether their plan was His way of fulfilling His promise.
- Hagar was only “Plan B” in someone else’s scheme.
- Have you ever felt cast out, forgotten, discarded, or abandoned?

Problem (vv. 1-4)
- Dangerous thing for those who heard from God to be outside the will of God
- Someone else’s issue becomes Hagar’s problem

PAIN/PANIC (vv. 4-6)
What kind of life could H expect w/ the problems she now had?
- Sarai’s impatience brought pain and conflict to many people. (v.3)
- When Hagar becomes pregnant, her meek manner changed to arrogance. Hagar’s attitude was different
- When things get hard, we sometimes run rather than stay and face the music?
- Hagar’s decision to run away from home and life itself was one of panic (v.6)
- God’s words to Hagar came with a two-step exhortation. One of encouragement: Fear Not! And the next was a call to action: Arise! Faith must be active. The Lord does the same for us. He reminds us not to fear, yet expects us to also move in faith, fueled by power of the Holy Spirit.

PROTECTION (vv. 7-9)
Hagar has an amazing encounter with the True and Living God who gives her the strength to go back and deal with Sarai. God gave Hagar protection. Did the Lord change the situation? Doesn’t appear so. But the Lord gave her the grace to endure.

- Even as a slave Hagar had certain protections because she belonged to Abram.
- IF you are not careful, to some this command to go back may seem insensitive and oppressive. She won’t return defenseless or with the same status. She will return with a strong promise received directly and personally from God.

PRESENCE/PROVISION (10-14)
- Where God guides, he will provide
- When Hagar cried out, God heard her affliction. He is the God who hears as well as the God who sees. She cried out in despair, helplessness, and hopelessness. He promises to hear us when we call, just like He heard Hagar. The following verses tell us about calling out in prayer: Psalm 116:1-2; Psalm 56:8; Romans 8:26
- God is a very present help in times of trouble. God is immutable, meaning that He never changes. This means that just as He heard Hagar, He also will hear your cries and see your pain. He wants to give you wisdom and instruction to develop you, as well as comfort and encouragement. Cry out to Him, mother’s, that’s always the answer!
