Sermon Based Questions, I Corinthians 12-14
Prayer Requests:
Group Discussion: When was the first time you ever remember being totally infatuated or in love with someone? What actions did you take to communicate your love?
Read: I Corinthians 12:1-14:1 List words that are repeated over and over again.
If repeated words help us determine the theme of a passage of scripture how would you summarize the main theme? If coming up with just one theme is too difficult, what are the 3 themes of that passage?
If love is a verb that requires action, who are the people in and throughout your life that have taken actions of love toward you? Who are the people that you have taken actions of love toward?
There are 4 applications in the sermon notes:
#1. Why is it so difficult to eliminate divisions when a group of people come together for a common purpose? ICor. 12:25 says that we’re to have the “same care” for every member of our group, why do we value some people above others?
#2. I Cor. 12:31 states that love is more excellent than spiritual gifts, why do you think Paul would write that statement?
#3. Since the goal of a Christian’s life is love, what is the intensity we should have for love as expressed by I Cor. 14:1a? Other than love what are some areas in your life where you have an intense commitment to achieve a goal?
What if you were to rewrite that career, financial, marriage, parenting, goal. What if every goal started with, “Because love IS the goal, I will make it the primary goal in my career.” Would that change how you achieve career success? Instead of career, insert financial, marriage, parenting or whatever other goals you have.
#4. Who is the greatest mom you’ve ever known? Why?
Family Time: Have everyone write a note of appreciation to their mom. Make sure they thank her for character traits as well as actual physical things she does for them.
