Matthew 16:21-28

Title: The Suffering King
Scripture: Matthew 16:21-28
Speaker: Tyler Chernesky, TylerC@ChristCommunityKC.org

>> Peter was surprised by the suffering that Jesus was describing.
>> Peter cannot imagine the life of Jesus with suffering, but Jesus cannot imagine HIs life without suffering.
>> My suffering will yield great transformation.
>> Jesus says, you can’t avoid suffering, but you can embrace it, and I can redeem it.
Yes, your life is messy and hard, but that’s not a failure of the plan; it is the plan. It’s God working to complete what he’s begun in you... That means those moments of difficulty are not an interruption of his plan or the failure of his plan, but rather an important part of his plan. I think there are times for many of us when we cry out for God's grace and we get it--but it's not the grace that we're looking for. We want the grace of relief or release... What we all really need is the grace of transformation.
- Paul Tripp
>> It doesn’t mean that we have to celebrate suffering.
>> We don’t shy away from difficult tasks.
>> We don’t shy away from difficult people.
