Game of Thrones- Week 8- The Kingdom of Cheap Grace

Game of Thrones- Week 8- The Kingdom of Cheap Grace

We may not realize, but we are pitted in the midst of an unseen war for our soul. This covert battle is one that we cannot afford to lose. Idolatry is not just an ancient concern, but a real and present danger. In this series, Game of Thrones, we embrace the call to exchange counterfeit gods for the genuine article, to trade all challengers for the only one who has rightfully earned the right to take the throne of our lives. In the war for your soul, only one can wear the crown.

Romans 10:9

Cheap grace is cheap because it requires nothing of anyone.
“Grace alone does everything, they say, and so everything can remain as it was before.”
- Dietrich Bonhoeffer
“Where sin increased, grace increased all the more.”
- Romans 5:20
Humanity wants the benefits of grace without the cost of grace.
Cheap grace teaches that grace has it all covered.
Go and live your life.
Believing in Jesus was cheap. Following Jesus was costly.

Matthew 13:44

“Such grace is costly because it calls us to follow, and it is grace because it calls us to follow Jesus Christ. It is costly because it costs a man his life, and it is grace because it gives a man the only true life.”
- Dietrich Bonhoeffer

Luke 9:23-24

Grace can only be accepted when received with open hands.
The life of grace is the life that serves as an act of surrendered obedience to God.
“It was grace because it cost so much, and it costs so much because it was grace.”
- Dietrich Bonhoeffer

Romans 6:1-3

So many people continue to languish in misery because instead of walking in freedom, they choose the bondage of cheap grace.

Romans 7:19-20, Romans 7:24

“Thank God! The answer is in Jesus Christ our Lord.”
- Romans 7:25
God has something better than to continue living in bondage to sin. God offers you freedom now.
“The Spirit of God, who raised Jesus from the dead, lives in you. And just as God raised Christ Jesus from the dead, he will give life to your mortal bodies by this same Spirit living within you.”
- Romans 8:9,11
Grace can only be accepted when received with open hands.
It’s costly because it costs a person their life, but it’s grace because it gives you the only true life.
