1 – Why Should I Be Baptized?
Because Christ COMMANDS IT
Matthew 28:18-20 (NIV) - “Then Jesus came to them and said, ‘Go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.’”
2 – Who Should Be Baptized?
Every person who has BELIEVED in Christ.
Acts 2:41 (NIV) - “Those who accepted His message were baptized, ...”
3 – Why Be Baptized By Immersion?
Because JESUS was baptized that way.
Matthew 3:13-17 – “Then Jesus came from Galilee to the Jordan to be baptized by John. But John tried to deter him, saying, "I need to be baptized by you, and do you come to me?" Jesus replied, "Let it be so now; it is proper for us to do this to fulfill all righteousness." Then John consented. As soon as Jesus was baptized, he went up out of the water. At that moment heaven was opened, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and lighting on him. And a voice from heaven said, "This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased."
Acts 8:38-39 (NIV) - “Then both Philip and the eunuch went down into the water and Philip baptized him. When they came up out of the water...”
BAPTISM = (greek) “baptize” (bap-tid'-zo); to wash, dip, IMMERSE plunge under, submerge.
1 - You Are Going Public With Your Stand With CHRIST
Galatians 3:26-27 – “You are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus, for all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ.”
Matthew 10:32-33 - "Whoever acknowledges me before men, I will also acknowledge him before my Father in heaven. But whoever disowns me before men, I will disown him before my Father in heaven.”
2 - You Are Baptized Into Christ’s DEATH
Romans 6:3-4a - “Or don't you know that all of us who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death…”
Romans 6:6-7 – “For we know that our old self was crucified with him so that the body of sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves to sin- because anyone who has died has been freed from sin.”
3 - You Are Raised Into New LIFE.
Romans 6:4b - “…just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life.”
