I. THE ENTRANCE OF ONE KING
A. THE CROWD- v. 12
B. THE CRY- v. 13
-“crying out, “Hosanna! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord, even the King of Israel!””
-Psalm 118:25-26- 25 “Save us, we pray, O Lord! O Lord, we pray, give us success 26 Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord! We bless you from the house of the Lord.”
-Hosanna = Save us; Save, Please
C. THE COLT- vv. 14-15
Zechariah 9:9 “Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion! Shout aloud, O daughter of Jerusalem! Behold, your king is coming to you; righteous and having salvation is he, humble and mounted on a donkey, on a colt, the foal of a donkey.”
II. THE RESPONSE OF THREE GROUPS
A. THE DISCIPLES’ FOOLISHNESS- v. 16
-They were prophetically illiterate.
B. THE CROWD’S SELFISHNESS- vv. 17-18
-This crowd was more concerned about what they could get from Jesus than getting Jesus himself.
C. THE PHARISEES’ REJECTION - v. 19
-“Either you'll have to "kill" Jesus, or you'll have to crown him but the one thing you can't do is just say "What an interesting guy.” (Keller)
