Getting Started

1. What was helpful to you in this week’s sermon? What didn’t you understand?
2. What is something that has been on your mind lately? Have you been tempted to worry about this more than you pray about it?

Going Deeper

3. Read Philippians 4:2-9. What stands out to you?
4. Read 4:2-3. What is the immediate situation that leads Paul to talk about anxiety? How can anxiety over a situation lead to conflict? How can conflict lead us to anxiety?
5. Read 4:4-6. What is the plan that the Bible lays out for anxiety? There are at least 4 kinds of prayer: adoration, confession, thanksgiving, and supplication (summarized in the acronym A.C.T.S.). Where do you see each of these in these verses? Why is each one of these important for overcoming anxiety?
6. Read 4:7-9. What is God’s promise in scripture related to anxiety? Is God’s promise that happens immediately? In other areas of your life have you experienced God’s promises coming true over time?

Application

7. Memorizing scripture is the most important way for us to transform our thinking from the lies we believe to the truth. Take 60 seconds as a group to memorize Philippians 4:6-7.
8. How could you see God using this passage in your life? Is there a friend that you can share this passage with?
