As we've explored the Heart of a King, we've seen how much we need and actually long for a king – an anointed one (Messiah) appointed by God, whom we can trust to truly have our best interests in mind, along with the best interests of everyone else in the world, too. Who can balance all this? What kind of king can be faithful, merciful, just, good, kind, wise, and perfect…all the time…for everyone? It's obviously not any of us! And even if we could find such a king, how could we be sure he possessed this kind of character, that this truly is his nature? He'd have to display some incredible evidence of his glory, authority, and provision, showing signs of great compassion and power. Believe it or not, this is just what the apostle John says he wrote his gospel account to show us – that Jesus is the King we need to deliver us! In our Signs of a King series, we'll watch in the gospel of John as Jesus performs several signs that manifest His true identity as our perfect King…all culminating in the ultimate sign of the true King on Easter – when Jesus conquered death!

“Indeed, if we consider the unblushing promises of reward and the staggering nature of the rewards promised in the Gospels, it would seem that Our Lord finds our desires, not too strong, but too weak. We are half-hearted creatures, fooling about with drink and sex and ambition when infinite joy is offered us, like an ignorant child who wants to go on making mud pies in a slum because he cannot imagine what is meant by the offer of a holiday at the sea. We are far too easily pleased.” – C.S. Lewis, The Weight of Glory
“One’s mind runs back up the sunbeam to the sun.” – C.S. Lewis, Letters to Malcolm: Chiefly on Prayer
