YOU VERSION NOTES
Welcome to our “Series” in the Book of Romans!
Last week… The ideas of foreknowledge, pre-destiny and election can be hard to reconcile with a loving God.
* There is so much that we may never fully understand, but His character should never be in doubt.
This week, Romans Chapter 10…
* If the Law doesn’t bring salvation, and if God reserves the sovereign right to revise His plan based on Israel’s actions, what hope do we have?
Paul lets them know where his heart for Israel is…
* Romans 10:1
Moses had it right, but didn’t understand the fullness of what he taught
* Romans 10:5-7
* It proved to be impossible for them to fulfill in the literal sense.
Then Paul helps them connect the dots…
* Romans 10:8
The secret key to unlock the gifts of salvation and righteousness is inside each of us, waiting to be used!
* Romans 10:9
Let’s take a closer look at that verse…
* “Confess”, “Believe”, and “Saved”
Confess:
* “Confess”- Gr. Homologeó “to publicly declare full alignment”
* “with your mouth”- Gr. Rhema “Speaking God’s revelation”
* “is Lord”- Gr. Kurios “excercising absolute ownership”
Believe:
* “Believe” - Gr. Pisteuó “faith derived from God’s gift”
* “Heart” – Gr. Kardia “the center of our desires”
Saved:
* “Saved”- Gr. Sozo “Rescued from destruction”
The complete translation then:
* Romans 10:9 “If you publicly declare full alignment with God’s revelation that you belong to Jesus Christ, and if your faith is a result of God’s gift, placed into the very center of your desires, you will be rescued from destruction”
SO then, when Paul writes…
* Romans 10:10
* It’s because you choose to accept His invitation!
This gift is there for the asking:
* Romans 10:13
But, there’s a catch….
* It doesn’t begin and end with you…Otherwise we’d go home once we accepted Jesus.
We have a responsibility to the “Great Commission”
* Matthew 28:19
* Romans 10:14
* Romans 10:17
So, God’s gift of faith and salvation are activated by our obedience in proclaiming the good news of Jesus Christ!
