How to Think like God Thinks...

Step 1: You believe that servant like-thinking is available
to you through Christ’s power and example (2:5).
Observation & Application:

What did Jesus see?

What did Jesus think?

What did Jesus do?

How to Think like God Thinks...

Step 2: You understand that you can willingly give up your
rights for the good of others (2:6).
"In His incarnation, Jesus did not in any sense, to any degree, at any time, or for any season surrender any whit of deity...Jesus did, however, take upon Himself genuine human nature…And the Scriptures make clear that Jesus’ humanity – albeit unfallen humanity – was genuine and entire. Thus, as we read the Gospel narratives of Jesus’ life it is important to remember that except at those occasional and relatively infrequent times when the Holy Spirit directed Jesus . . . to access and employ the superhuman capacities which are a function of His divine attributes, He lived out His life under the actual and real limitations intrinsic to humanity."
-Dr. Doug Bookman
“Christ could have existed and have appeared only as God, only in a manner equal to God: it was a right which was due to him; he need not have gone into another manner of existence.”
- J. Müller

Step 3: You develop a growing desire to be sacrificial for
the sake of others (2:8).
"Self-sacrifice brought Christ into the world. And self-sacrifice will lead us, His followers, not away from but into the midst of men. Wherever men suffer, there will we be to comfort. Wherever men strive, there will we be to help. Wherever men fail, there will be we to uplift. Wherever men succeed, there will we be to rejoice. Self-sacrifice means not indifference to our times and our fellows: it means absorption in them.
It means forgetfulness of self in others."
- B.B. Warfield

Step 4: You choose to consistently make extraordinary
sacrifices for others with no immediate return (2:9-11).
6 For I am already being poured out as a drink offering, and the time of my departure has come. 7 I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. 8 Henceforth there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, will award to me on that day, and not only to me but also to all who have loved his appearing.
2 Timothy 4:6-8
Therefore, my brothers, whom I love and long for, my joy and crown, stand firm thus in the Lord, my beloved.
Philippians 4:1
