Recap: “What are you afraid of? What keeps you up at night? In this series we’re learning to fear less so that we experience our best life and live fearless. Having less fear isn’t about playing it safer, or being more comfortable, it’s the opposite. It’s dreaming and risking big. It’s confronting our fears and in faith moving forward in the face of fear. When faced with fearful situations we either Fight or Take Flight. We run to the action or away from it. As a follower of Jesus we’re called to fight against our fear and move forward with courage. We can do that when we attack the imaginary “what if’s”, our reminded of God’s resources, and expose our fear for what it is & replace it with faith as we surrender to God.
GROUP QUESTIONS
(1) Are you naturally a fight or flight person? Why do you say that?
(2) Other than firefighters, who else do you see as heroic? Why? What are some of the things hero’s seem to have in common?
(3) We talked about some different ways to fight against our fears. Attack the imaginary “what if’s”, be reminded of God’s resources, and expose fear for what it is. Which do you think you need to address most? Why?
(4) In Numbers 13-14 we read about the 12 spies. 10 try to stoke the fears of the people, and two run to the fight. What do you see as the difference between the two? How should that affect how you live in the face of your fears?
(5) Read Hebrews 10:38-39. Where are you tempted to “shrink back”? What does it say about those who shrink back? What’s a step you need to take to not shrink back?
(6) Review Isaiah 41:10. What does this verse have to do with whether you Fight or Take Flight?
(7) We need to live with faith not fear. What’s one step you can take to confront your fear and move forward?
Theme to memorize this month: Isaiah 41:10
So do not fear, for I am with you;do not be dismayed, for I am your God.I will strengthen you and help you;I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.
