1. Kindness is tenderhearted goodwill with thoughtful follow through.
2. Kindness is very important to Jesus.

Acts of kindness

In Matthew 25:31-40, Jesus' examples were all acts of kindness - you fed me, you gave me something to drink, you invited me in, you gave me clothing, you cared for me,& you visited me .Each of these are simple acts of kindness. This link suggests ways we can begin practicing acts of kindness.

Personal Reflection / Growth Group Questions
1. What catches your attention in this text? Is it a specific act of kindness? Is it Jesus' emphasis on acts of kindness? Or something else? Why?

2. Do you think of yourself as a kind person? In the past week, can you think of kind acts that you have performed? Can you see yourself being more intentional about finding ways to act kindly? How?
3. In daily life, love looks like kindness.
Personal Reflection / Growth Group Questions
Briefly discuss the tension between Jesus' statements about kindness as a criteria for entering God's kingdom in Matt. 25 and the clear understanding of salvation as articulated in Romans 10:9.

Are you willing to accept Pastor Neal's suggestion that we have the privilege of believing and declaring, both are true?

Acts of kindness? Expressions of love? Or both?

Christians appropriately feel their highest calling is to love others. How do we do that in daily life. Here are some examples of humans helping others. Can you tell the difference between a loving act and an act of kindness?

Personal Reflection / Growth Group Questions
Are there differences between love and kindness. Is so, what are they? If so, do they matter when it comes to acting in Christlike ways towards others?
4. Jesus practiced inside and outside kindness.
4a. Jesus cultivated Inside kindness.
4b. Jesus demonstrated outside kindness.
5. We can cultivate and practice inside and outside kindness.

This is Hula Hoop Kindness
5a. Inside kindness includes how we think and feel about ourselves and others.

Inner kindness is everything inside the circle. This is the kindness inside us.
5b. Outside kindness results from inner kindness.

Outer kindness is what we do for others without their participation.

Personal Reflection / Growth Group Questions
1. What kind of challenges come to mind when you think about inside kindness?
2. What gets in the way of practicing outside kindness?
3. Which is harder for you?
4. What will you do this week to work on one or both of these?
NEXT STEPS-
1. This week, repeat one inner kindness exercise each day. For example, remember a positive thing someone said about you recently and repeat it to yourself. Or, read Zephaniah 3:17 and replace the words “your” and “you” with your name.
2. Each day, put a ring on a different finger or watch on a different wrist. Leave it there until you do one act of kindness, then move it back to its regular place.
