How walking in humility brings unity:

•Attentiveness: consider what is most needed and choose your words accordingly.
And we urge you, brothers,
•admonish the idle,
•encourage the fainthearted,
•help the weak,
•be patient with them all.
1 Thessalonians 5:14
How walking in humility brings unity:

•Sacrifice: remind others of how Christ loved them.
How walking in humility brings unity:

•Dependence: work together with the Holy Spirit.
22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law. 24 And those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.
Galatians 5:22-24
How walking in humility brings unity:

•Graciousness: extend the compassion you’ve been shown.
12 a man who had died was being carried out, the only son of his mother, and she was a widow, and a considerable crowd from the town was with her. 13 And when the Lord saw her, he had compassion on her and said to her, “Do not weep.”
Luke 7:12-13
Then Jesus called his disciples to him and said, “I have compassion on the crowd because they have been with me now three days and have nothing to eat. And I am unwilling to send them away hungry, lest they faint on the way.”
Matthew 15:32
36 When he saw the crowds, he had compassion for them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. 37 Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few; 38 therefore pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest.”
Matthew 9:36-37
Humility’s Relational Measurements:

•Is there an active consideration of another’s thoughts and values? (2:2)

Being of the same mind isn’t possible if (1) your mind is already made up OR (2) if you are unwilling to share what you’re thinking.

if your mind is already made up, this is revealed when:

you ignore the other’s concerns (Ac. 7:57)
you insist your perceptions are right (Rm. 12:16)
you justify your position by comparing, blame shifting and judging motives (1 Cor. 4:5)
Never be wise in your own sight – ESV
Do not be wise in your own opinion – NKJV
Do not be wise in your own estimation – NASV
Do not be conceited – NIV
And don’t think you know it all! – NLT
Make friends with nobodies; don’t be the great
somebody – The Message
Being of the same mind isn’t possible if (1) your mind is already made up OR (2) if you are unwilling to share what you’re thinking.
if you’re unwilling to share what you’re thinking:

This often occurs as a response to fear (Pro. 29:25)
This may occur if there is hidden sin (Jos. 7:21)
This usually occurs in order to get your own way (Eph. 4:25)
Humility’s Relational Measurements:

Is there a proper understanding of your personal weaknesses? (2:3)
Humility’s Relational Measurements:

•Is there a joyful commitment to serve others before yourself? (2:4)
