1. Keep Jesus in first place so you can keep the opinion of others in their place

John 12:1–2 . . . Then, six days before the Passover, Jesus came to Bethany, where Lazarus was who had been dead, whom He had raised from the dead. 2 There they made Him a supper; and Martha served, but Lazarus was one of those who sat at the table with Him.

2. Rise above the complaints and remember your calling

John 12:3–5 . . . Then Mary took a pound of very costly oil of spikenard, anointed the feet of Jesus, and wiped His feet with her hair. And the house was filled with the fragrance of the oil. 4 But one of His disciples, Judas Iscariot, Simon’s son, who would betray Him, said, 5 “Why was this fragrant oil not sold for three hundred denarii and given to the poor?”

Luke 10:39 . . . And she had a sister called Mary, who also sat at Jesus’ feet and heard His word.

Acts 4:17-20 . . . But so that it spreads no further among the people, let us severely threaten them, that from now on they speak to no man in this name.” 18 So they called them and commanded them not to speak at all nor teach in the name of Jesus. 19 But Peter and John answered and said to them, “Whether it is right in the sight of God to listen to you more than to God, you judge. 20 For we cannot but speak the things which we have seen and heard.”

3 .Look beneath their insult to see their insecurity

John 12:6 . . . This he said, not that he cared for the poor, but because he was a thief, and had the money box; and he used to take what was put in it.

• Let Jesus justify you

John 12:7-8 . . . But Jesus said, “Let her alone; she has kept this for the day of My burial. 8 For the poor you have with you always, but Me you do not have always.”
