II Samuel 23:8-11

I: Definition: Perilous
Full of danger or risk; Exposed to imminent risk of disaster or ruin

Synonyms: Dangerous; Risky; Hazardous; Unsafe; Treacherous
II. Josheb-Basshebeth - ADINO

2 Samuel 23: 8: These are the names of the mighty men whom David had: Josheb-Basshebeth the Tachmonite, chief among the captains. He was called Adino the Eznite, because he had killed eight hundred men at one time.

A. Killed 800 men in one battle.
B. He stepped forward and became a Leader

Would you be willing to take a city for your king?
III. ELEAZAR

2 Samuel 23: 9-10 And after him was Eleazar the son of Dodo, the Ahohite, one of the three mighty men with David when they defied the Philistines who were gathered there for battle, and the men of Israel had retreated.10 He arose and attacked the Philistines until his hand was weary, and his hand stuck to the sword. The LORD brought about a great victory that day; and the people returned after him only to plunder hand clave unto the sword: and the LORD wrought a great victory that day; and the people returned after him only to spoil.

A. When all his fellow soldiers ran away in the heat of the battle, Eleazar STOOD and FOUGHT
B. Eleazar did not complain while they ran off
C. He fought so hard that his stand got stuck to the sword

Would you be willing to fight in a war even if you are left alone?
IV SHAMMAH

23 Samuel 23:11-12 And after him was Shammah the son of Agee the Hararite. The Philistines had gathered together into a troop where there was a piece of ground full of lentils. So the people fled from the Philistines. 12 But he stationed himself in the middle of the field, defended it, and killed the Philistines. So the LORD brought about a great victory.

A. He understood the importance of the land
B. He understood that a harvest would come forth
C. He understood that the battle was not just about today but for the future of Israel

Will you fight for the harvest?
V. STEPHEN

Your words and beliefs create your atmosphere. Make sure your atmosphere is a heavenly one

Stephen did this, let’s read it

Acts 7:54-56
When they heard these things they were cut to the heart, and they gnashed at him with their teeth. 55 But he, being full of the Holy Spirit, gazed into heaven and saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing at the right hand of God, 56 and said, “Look! I see the heavens opened and the Son of Man standing at the right hand of God!”

Acts 7:57-60
57 Then they cried out with a loud voice, stopped their ears, and ran at him with one accord; 58 and they cast him out of the city and stonedhim. And the witnesses laid down their clothes at the feet of a young man named Saul. 59 And they stoned Stephen as he was calling on Godand saying, “Lord Jesus, receive my spirit.” 60 Then he knelt down and cried out with a loud voice, “Lord, do not charge them with this sin.” And when he had said this, he fell asleep.

- Even while dying Stephen reached out in love because he knew his King's heart. Stephen had the heart of Jesus, our ultimate example, to die because He loves us
THOUGHT:

- God is calling us to stand our ground
- Don’t sell out to the pressure
- Don’t let fear make you compromise your beliefs
- Stand your Ground
- Stand for the harvest
- Stand for the land that God has promised you
- When you stand, God stands before you and the devil must flee

Psalm 68:1 (KJV) Let God arise: let his enemies be scattered: let them also that hate him flee before him.

- The battle is won
- The victory is ours
- When perilous times come; seek the opportunity
- Stand your ground
