Four Biblical Terms used to describe Hell
Old Testament
Sheol = the grave, the pit, the place of the departed dead
New Testament
Gehenna = Valley of Hinnon, a place outside of Jerusalem which was a center for idolatrous worship where children were burned by fire as an offering to the god Molek
Hades = The place or state of the dead, the grave, or death itself
Tartarus = the lower regions, the place of eternal punishment
