Acts 1:15 . . . And in those days Peter stood up in the midst of the disciples (altogether the number of names was about a hundred and twenty), and said . . .

Acts 2:14 . . . But Peter, standing up with the eleven, raised his voice and said to them, “Men of Judea and all who dwell in Jerusalem, let this be known to you, and heed my words.

I. Disillusionment from your circumstances – Jesus died

John 20:6–10 . . . Then Simon Peter came, following him, and went into the tomb; and he saw the linen cloths lying there, 7 and the handkerchief that had been around His head, not lying with the linen cloths, but folded together in a place by itself. 8 Then the other disciple, who came to the tomb first, went in also; and he saw and believed. 9 For as yet they did not know the Scripture, that He must rise again from the dead. 10 Then the disciples went away again to their own homes.

II. Perceived Disqualification from your failures – Peter denied him

- You gotta “Get Real with Reality”

Luke 22:33–34 . . . But Peter said to Jesus, “Lord, I am ready to go with You, both to prison and to death.” 34 Then He said, “I tell you, Peter, the rooster shall not crow this day before you will deny three times that you know Me.”

Luke 22:61–62 . . . And the Lord turned and looked at Peter. Then Peter remembered the word of the Lord, how He had said to him, “Before the rooster crows, you will deny Me three times.” 62 So Peter went out and wept bitterly.

- You gotta “Check Yourself before you wreck yourself”

John 21:16 . . . Jesus said to him again a second time, “Simon, son of Jonah, do you love Me?”

III. Disengagement from your future – I’m forgiven but I can’t do what I used to do?

Matthew 16:18–19 . . . And I also say to you that you are Peter, and on this rock, I will build My church, and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it. 19 And I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.”

Numbers 23:19–20 . . . “God is not a man, that He should lie, Nor a son of man, that He should repent. Has He said, and will He not do? Or has He spoken, and will He not make it good? 20 Behold, I have received a command to bless; He has blessed, and I cannot reverse it.

Romans 11:29 . . . For the gifts and the calling of God are irrevocable.

- You gotta get “Back to the Future”

John 21:17 . . . He said to him the third time, “Simon, son of Jonah, do you love Me?” Peter was grieved because He said to him the third time, “Do you love Me?” And he said to Him, “Lord, You know all things; You know that I love You.” Jesus said to him, “Feed My sheep.”

IV. Disconnection from your faith – Running from rather than running to

1 Kings 19:9 . . . And there he went into a cave, and spent the night in that place; and behold, the word of the LORD came to him, and He said to him, “What are you doing here, Elijah?”

John 21:3 . . . Simon Peter said to them, “I am going fishing.” They said to him, “We are going with you also.” They went out and immediately got into the boat, and that night they caught nothing.

- You gotta go “Back to the upper room”
