THE DISCIPLE’S RELATIONSHIPS
If your relationships are to be family-like you will need to:
(1) place others ahead of ourselves
(2) put on humility with your ideas & agendas
(3) practice honor and respect with others
—even in the face of disagreement.

When there are age/gender differences:
•There should be DIFFERENT APPROACHES to avoid showing partiality.
•There are UNIQUE OPPORTUNITIES for the various ages—particularly the older—to serve within the church.

Different Approaches Avoid Partiality:
•With older men don’t draw near to attack them with your words but draw near to encourage.
•With younger men show brotherly love and encourage self-control (Titus 2:6)
•With older women express their value and show care (Jn. 19:26-27)
• With younger women avoid even a hint of sexual
immorality in touch, word or thought (Eph. 5:3-5)

As believers age and follow Christ:
•They cultivate a wisdom that has different priorities than when they were younger (5:10, 13)
•They have had years to develop a lifestyle of good works (5:10)
•They have experienced the heartbreaking joys and challenges of marriage and family (5:9-10)
•They can stay focused on the mission-message and serve others too (5:16)
