Heartland Community Church
Sunday Worship November 4, 2018
We take SO much for granted- things we've seen happen so often we no longer think of them as the little miracles they really are. But, if we stopped to give thanks where it was due, what would our hearts & lives look like? Join us as we take some time out to give thanks where thanks is due and cultivate an attitude of gratitude!

Skip It To Give It – Star of Hope
Skip It to Give It is a two-week campaign to help fund relief efforts in Haiti following hurricane Matthew and the subsequent disasters. This year there has been extreme civil unrest and the ones who suffer are the weak and poor.
This campaign is very simple; the name says it all! Imagine thinking about others before buying a gourmet coffee, an extra donut, a dinner out, a movie night, and instead of spending, taking those few dollars and giving them to help the needy in Haiti? Utilize the pink card to help you plan. Skip It to Give It can be a great way to teach children about sacrificial giving.
The "Skip It to Give It" project is quite simple...
· We encourage you to give up a daily item for two weeks and instead put the money you saved into the provided envelope.
· You are encouraged to increase prayer for the people of Haiti for the two weeks.
· Envelopes will be collected on Sunday, November 18th and returned to Star of Hope.

Thanksgiving Potluck
Gather with us on Sunday, November 18th at 5 p.m. as our church family to celebrate our thankfulness to God. Each family is asked to bring a main dish (turkey, chicken, roast, meatballs, etc.) and either a side dish or a dessert. Come hungry and with a thankful heart.

Pray for those who are persecuted for their faith in Jesus Christ. Pray for their strength and boldness in sharing their faith and in standing up to their oppressors, and that we would be as bold in sharing our faith as well.
Please continue to pray for John & Carole Harris. John is now taking his dialysis at home, four times a day, and Carole has been trained so she is able to give him his treatment. Carole continues to receive her chemotherapy weekly. Please pray that these treatments will be effective for both of them.
Pray for Jenni Wittig, that all side effects from her chemo and other meds will be minimal, and for healing for her body and for her energy. Her fifth treatment was on Wednesday, with 13 more to go.

Pray for our nation and the elections this week, that God’s love would pervade every corner of our country and that everyone would love others as Jesus loves us. Pray for civility especially among those who represent us, for healing, and for God’s direction and mercy.

Sermon Notes & Scripture
"It Starts With the Heart"
Pastor Matt Schaffner
Contentment- a state of happiness and satisfaction; an inner sufficiency that keeps us at peace in spite of outward circumstances.
Contentment does not come from owning whatever we want, for there is no end to what we want.
Material possessions are equally irrelevant at our entrance into and exit from the world!
“A man is wealthy in proportion to the number of things he can afford to do without.”
- Henry David Thoreau
Discontentment leads to destruction in three easy steps:
1) the lure
2) the lust
3) total moral ruin
We cannot cover our desire for wealth with a veneer of godliness and have anything other than sorrows and pain.
Contentment with what we have fuels genuine gratitude and leads us to grow in godliness.
Monday is coming!
What happens Sunday is only as meaningful as what you do with it the rest of the week. This month we want to take time to cultivate a thankful heart and would encourage you to take the time to say, "Thank You!" to God for all the things He does for you each day. Also, we're going to launch a thirty day reading plan looking at thankfulness this month. Join us as we pursue an attitude of gratitude & work to live a lifestyle of thanks giving!
